8 Day Uluru to Adelaide Swag Camping Tour Itinerary
Want to get all the way from Uluru to Adelaide but don’t have weeks to spend? This 8 day tour is what you need! You’ll be exploring Uluru – Kata Tjuta National Park, Kings Canyon, and Coober Pedy before making your way toward South Australia to discover Flinders Ranges and a part of the epic Oodnadatta Track. For the real Aussie experience, you’ll be sleeping under the stars in your own Aussie swag.
Day One (dinner)
Your tour starts in sacred Uluru before exploring the Cultural Centre in Uluru – Kata Tjuta NP where you’ll be introduced to the Anangu culture. We’ll explore their beautiful land while learning more about the history of this area. Then it’s on to our camp. We’ll enjoy dinner, get to know your tour guide & other travellers better, and set up our beds for the next two nights.
Day Two (breakfast, lunch & dinner)
We’ll get up early today and enjoy a magical sunrise over Uluru. We won’t just be gazing at Uluru from afar, but also get up close! Together with our friendly guide, we’ll do a 10 km walk around the base of Uluru (you can also choose a shorter walk). Take in the beautiful art, learn more about the dream stories, and enjoy the refreshing water of the waterholes that Uluru is rich in. Later on, we head back to our camp to relax in the pool, check out a didgeridoo performance and visit the museum before our delicious dinner.
Day Three (breakfast & lunch)
Today we’ll be exploring Kata Tjuta first and then head out to the beautiful Watarrka National Park and Kings Canyon. We’ll also go for an exciting hike in the Valley of the Winds and enjoy an informative and fun 1-hour Karrke Aboriginal Cultural Experience. Here you’ll learn more about the Luritja and Pertame peoples’ culture and history. Finally, we travel to Kings Creek Station which is our accommodation for tonight. Our evening involves swag camping and a fun campfire dinner.
Day Four (breakfast)
We’ll cross the border from the NT to South Australia and travel to Coober Pedy. This town is mainly built underground because of the high temperatures (it can get up to 50 degrees in summer!). Tonight our accommodation is completely different! From sleeping in a swag in the warm air we’ll be sleeping in a hostel (bunk share dormitory) underground. This way, you’ll experience how the locals live now and back in time.
Day Five (breakfast & dinner)
Day 5 is all about Coober Pedy, where you’ll learn more about the history. But before we do this, we’ll visit the Josephine’s Gallery & Kangaroo Orphanage to meet the rescued roos. We’ll then hop on over to the Umoona Opal Mine and Museum. Try mine your own opal, or in other words ‘noodling’. In the afternoon it’s time to hit the road again and make our way to William Creek while driving through Anna Creek, the world’s largest cattle station. We’ll enjoy a tasty dinner at the famous William Creek Hotel and then crawl into our swag for another nice night under the stars.
Day Six (breakfast & dinner)
We want you to get a taste of the real Aussie outback by driving along the Oodnadatta Track. In total, this road is 620km and totally unsealed. As this is quite a lot of kilometres, we’ll only be exploring a section of the track. But expect awesome scenery! Keep your eyes peeled while we travel along the Mutonia Sculpture Park sculptures, from odd looking planes to even a large dog? We’ll also make a stop at Kati Thanda (Lake Eyre), Australia’s largest salt lake. We continue our journey further south to Flinders Ranges National Park and go to our accommodation for the night, Skytrek Willow Springs Station.
Day Seven (breakfast, lunch & dinner)
Ikara-Flinders Ranges NP has a very long geological history which is 100% worth visiting. There is no better way to explore the national park than with a fantastic hike where we’ll walk through rivers and along refreshing waterholes. On our tour today, you’ll get the chance to do some real conservation work in the park (if the weather persists) and learn more about the conservation activities from a park ranger. Eventually, we’ll enjoy a mesmerising Brachina Groge drive. Tonight too, we’ll be staying over at Skytrek Willow Springs Station
Day Eight (breakfast & lunch)
On the final day of our fun and fantastic journey from Uluru to Adelaide, we’ll be visiting Arkaroo Rock Trail for a great hike with stunning vistas. After our picnic lunch, we’ll go to Alligator Gorge in Mount Remarkable National Park to marvel at its stunning landscape. Are you a wine lover? Then you’ll love our drive back to Adelaide, as we travel through the wine region Clare Valley. Maybe after your tour, you can check out some of its wineries! We’ll be back around 6pm and you can go straight to your accommodation or continue your trip.
