Did you know birdlife is abundant in Uluru? Uluru is Australia’s most ancient monolith. But it’s so much more than just a wonderous rock full of ancient wonder. It’s also a haven for birdlife. Each morning, the landscape burns a fiery orange colour, and birds welcome a new day with an orchestra of birdsong.

Most of the time, the birds of Uluru are named after the types of natural spots in which they inhabit.
Zebra Finch
One of the most recognizable residents is the Zebra Finch. These tiny, fast-moving birds are often seen in flocks, zipping through the spinifex grasslands. Their cheerful chirping belies their tough, desert-hardened lifestyle.
Wedge-tailed Eagle
One of the most recognisable features of a wedge-tailed eagle is their ability to wide claws and a long wing span.
Their preferred habitats tend to be in more rocky regions.
Puli birds
The word Puli originates from the local language of the Anangu people. It translates to ‘rocks’ and ‘gorges’, and it is given to the birds which frequent the surroundings. Rocks and gorges – and it’s given to the birds which frequent it.
Seasonal changes also bring about different birds! Of course, in the summertime, you’ll see a lot more. Birds like the grey-headed honeyeater can be spotted here, and they come out in the dark more so than in the daytime. Life in the desert is a delicate balance.
